The Newly Weds:Odd Anniversary

  Ethel Marie Potter Mertz, a college student of 22 years, scanned the entire amount of her living room that was in view, which she had just finished cleaning. Dusting her hands off and giving a nod of her head in satisfaction of her hard work, she decided to run to the upstairs apartment of her neighbors, the Ricards and see Lucy.
         Tapping at the door of apartment J, Ethel waited outside till a mumbled voice from inside called for her to come in. As Ethel closed the door behind her she began "Lucy Ii just wanted to come up and see how you were doing." and turning around she saw Lucy sitting on the Coffee table in the living room weeping her eyes out into a face cloth that was part of her laundry. "oh,Lucy,Lucy, what's wrong, are you alright! "Ooo-oh, Ethel!" cried the little red headed Lucy " its, sooo,aowwwfulll!. Ricky, Riicky" "Yeah,yeah Ricky, what!" cried out Ethel in alarm, thinking something awful must have happened to him. "He,heeee, He forgot our 6 monthaversary!!!!!!aw hoooo!"" Oh,Lucy, you didn't have to scare me like that! Why I thought that something really awful had happened!" Ethel cried out. "Awful!,something awful has happend! eeewwwww Ricky dosen't love me anymore! ooohoohooo! And whats worse Ethel is, he knew about it all week and still, Nothing!1!!!!!!!ooohooohoooo!" "oh, there,there Lucy" Ethell said, patting Lucy's shoulder and sitting down next to her on the coffee table, "are you sure he knew about it, i mean cause with the school and all...." "he did too know about it, we even talked about it over the weekend, that was 3 days ago!oo,hoo ewww!" "oh, Lucy that's just awful! And he knew since the weekend too." "He didn't say happy anniversary or even I love you, he just grabbed his book and camera equipment, and left ewww he eeewww! He had three days to plan something and do something nice, but no he didn't do anything. I did get him something and this morning I had made him breakfast, but when I "asked him about it he didn't say anything back to me he just looked at me as if I was crazy. I mean After going to school all day, cleaning up the apartment, cooking, laundry, and then my little side job, it would have been nice to feel loved and appreciated on one of our special days, but no he can't even remember that! What did you and Fred do for your 6 monthaversary Ethel?" "Who, us, we didn't do anything. When I mentioned it to Fred all he said was, and I quote "is that so, heres a corn dog, happy anniversary." unquote, but oh if I every forgot his birthday, I would never hear the end o it from him.""Men are just horrible aren't they" Lucy replied "I mean I wasn't asking for much, I just wanted a simple Happy Anniversary with an I Love you Combination. Well you know what Ethel, he can do if Ricky wants to forget our anniversary, and he can just do his own laundry from now on!" Lucy said standing up and throwing the face cloth on the couch with the rest of the laundry. "Oh and now I'I have to get ready for work!" "Alright, well Lucy I'll come by and see how you're doing later." said Ethel as she headed towards the door." Alright Ethel, see you later!"And with that the door shut.
               Ethel rushing home caught Fred coming in with Ricky carrying and eight foot tall pink wooden heart painted in large white letters "I Love You Lucy"  "What's this, oh Ricky you did remember your 6th monthaversary,Oh Lucy will be happy. Fred, what's wrong with you, why can't you be romantic like Ricky!" "What's wrong with me!" retorted Fred, What's wrong with you!" he directed at Ricky," making all us other guys look bad!" Ricky only laughed in reply. "Hey Ethel, has Lucy left for work yet? I want to hang this in the doorway as a surprise for when she comes in." Ricky said. "Yeah, she just left, poor thing she thought that you had forgotten" "haha,well I'll make that up to her tonight. I have the entire evening prepared, a romantic Italian dinner by candle light, champagne, and for desert strawberries with whip cream..." "Hey wait a second, Lucy's only 20, don't go turning this into a keg party for you, you know darn right well that Lucy and I don't like drinking!" Ethel butting in. "I thought of that, I'll have a side of Lucy's poison on the side, a full bottle of cream soda, the champagne bottle will just be for kicks'! Ha ha ha ha!" Ricky said with a burst of laughter. Fred looked over at Ethel, with a big grin on is face and saw Ethel smile big while shaking her head side to side. "I only wish you would have thought of something half as romantic for one of our anniversary!"Ethel said speaking up again," Well I'll leave you boys to your work." and with that Ethel left them. "Awe Ricky, why did you ever have to come up with some weird holiday like this, now Ethel will never let me live it down!"Cried out Fred to Ricky. "Well" began Ricky, "I find that it is much nicer to celebrate the weird ones because they are a good surprise for Lucy." "Well I still think its crazy, anniversaries and all. My folks never celebrated their anniversary and the only reason they know it's there anniversary is because it was on that day when they got their notary for signing on their house, which means one less year on the mortgage!"Retorted Fred.
               Lucy came home in a state of despondency and anger, so much so that when she came in the door she didn't notice the lit candles and the giant wooden heart hung in the doorway to greet her until Ricky called out "Happy 6MonthAversary!" Lucy, as though waking up, came to realize her surroundings as her eyes jumped around the room she could see all the work that went into to it that all her sadness and anger disappeared immediately! There were a dozen red roses on the table nearby in the living room, with a spaghetti dinner, champagne, her favorite cream soda drink, and a bucket of chocolate covered strawberries with canned whipped cream on the side, and there right over her head was a giant pink heart with the words "I love You Lucy" "Oh Ricky did you do all this for me!" cried Lucy as she clasped her hands together "Yes it's all for you, my Lucy" replied Ricky as he took her hand and led her to the dinner table. Pulling out her seat and then sitting down by her they opened the champagne bottle together just to hear it go "pop!" and watch it fizzle. After going through the Lady and the Tramp scene, and finishing off the strawberries, Lucy leaning over the table and batching her long eyelashes up at him slyly said to Ricky, "do you want to finish off tonight like we did the first night we met?" "What can I say but bring it on!" "Same stakes as last time?"Asked Lucy "You bet, loser does cleanup!" You're on!"Cried Lucy then grabbing at the whip cream cans began spraying each other as fast as they could and spraying ant any angle. Lucy ran around the table trying not to get hit, but Ricky fired back, Lucy retaliated by hitting high, and when Ricky dove behind the couch for cover Lucy jumped on top and swirled a cap of whipped cream onto his head. Giggling and laughing they both called a truce and fell back onto the couch. Then as they were both catching their breath, Ricky pulled out of his side pocket a heart shaped locket with a small round diamond in the middle and swiftly put it on around her neck."Oh Ricky, it's beautiful!"Cried Lucy looking up at Ricky through whipped creamed moosed bangs," Now it's my turn!"Said Lucy and out of a side draw pulled out a small rectangular box, from which came a very handsome black leather and gold watch."I got this specially for you." said Lucy as she tied it around his wrist "Do you like it?"Asked Lucy "I love it, it's absolutely wonderful, thank you Lucy!" Ricky replied kissing her cheek. "Happy Anniversary Ricky, I love you" said Lucy sentimentally. "And "I love you Lucy replied Ricky.
                   A few days later when Ethel returned home from school, she found a trail of notes the first that said that the trail would lead her to the kitchen. Each note stated a moment that was special to Fred about the time he spent with Ethel and one of the final notes which led her to the kitchen through the swinging door read "The look on your face when I proposed was special to me because it was at that moment that I knew that we would spend a lifetime together." "awwwww" cried out Ethel as she entered the kitchen and saw the beautiful flower petals on the floor that would grace her way to a the table that Fred had set up special. "Fred, what's all this for?"Ethel asked lovingly. "Well, I did the math and today is the 888 day that we met......." "aaAAWWWWw Fred" cried out Ethel, not letting him finish she kissed him on the cheek."hmmhmmmm, well!" replied Fred "keep um cumming sugar!"" Fred this is beautiful" said Ethel "Happy 888 days" replied Fred.
